Torre Bellesguard

Also known as Casa Figueres, after the family that commissioned it, the house was built between 1900 and 1909 on the site of the 15th-century residence of Martin I of Aragon, and Gaudí took the ruined castle as his starting point. The result is one of the few Gaudí buildings governed by straight lines, a tall rectilinear block under a steep roof and a slender tower, its walls faced in local slate with mosaic detailing. It sits well up in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi and sees a fraction of the traffic of the Eixample houses.
