Earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and above in Indonesia since 2000
Map of 13 locations in Indonesia
Indonesia sits along the Sunda Trench and the plate boundaries east of it, and the instrumental record since 2000 holds a long run of large shocks there, from deep Banda Sea ruptures felt only as cracked walls to megathrust events that moved the sea floor and sent water ashore. These are historical events, dated and located from the seismological catalogue, with the damage and casualty figures as contemporary agencies and press accounts recorded them. Several were followed by tsunamis; others happened too deep to do more than wake people.
