2009 Manokwari earthquake
The first of a series of shocks hit about 135 kilometres from Manokwari, the capital of West Papua, at 4:43am local time. Several storeys of the Mutiara Hotel in the city collapsed, and a navy hospital nurse described 20 patients being treated there. Death tolls in contemporary reports differ: a hospital director, Hengky Tewu, said three bodies had been found, including that of a 10-year-old girl, while another account put the toll at four, with dozens injured and hundreds of buildings destroyed.
