1959 Malpasset Dam failure
The concrete arch dam near Frejus, in the Cannes district of southern France, failed after several days of heavy rain and high winds. Case studies attribute the collapse to failure of the left abutment, where uplift pressures moved the thrust block and the resulting cracks propagated quickly across the face of the dam.
