1959 Vega de Tera dam failure
Around midnight the dam in Zamora province, built by the company Moncabril, broke and released nearly eight million cubic metres of water onto the town of Ribadelago, where almost the entire population was lost to the flood. Spanish accounts record both the death toll and the scale of material destruction in the town.
