Typhoon Maemi (2003)
While near peak intensity the typhoon decelerated and began turning to the north-northeast, positioned roughly 400 miles south-southeast of Okinawa. Satellite estimates at that time gave sustained winds of 172 mph with gusts to 200 mph. During its most intense phase, TRMM captured an eyewall replacement, with two concentric eyewalls present before the outer one collapsed inward.
