Typhoon Lupit (2003)
The storm formed on 18 November 2003 from the monsoon trough to the west of the Marshall Islands. It first brought tropical storm-force winds to Pohnpei, then damaged or destroyed about 200 homes in Chuuk State before a prolonged northwestward movement past several islands in Yap State, where it destroyed the food supply on several small islands in late November. Imagery from 25 November showed maximum sustained winds of 132 mph with gusts to 160 mph. As it became extratropical it was the first typhoon in December to threaten Japan in 13 years.
