Dalebrook Tidal Pool

Cut into the rock in 1907 between St James and Kalk Bay, wedged between the railway line and the sea, with large boulders standing in the middle of the basin and a low wall over which the pool runs into the ocean. Entry is down metal stairs. Rocky cliffs shelter it from wind and the water sits slightly warmer than the open bay, but the mountain takes the sun off it in the afternoon, so mornings are the better swim; at high tide waves break into the pool. Parking is off Main Road on the False Bay side, with an outdoor shower, changing rooms and toilets, about 35 minutes from the city.
