Las Violetas

Built in 1884 with stained glass, boiserie, Italian marble and furniture shipped from Paris, and known for the cortado and medialuna rather than anything invented since. Alfonsina Storni was a regular, as were Roberto Arlt, the jockey Irineo Leguisamo and former president Carlos Pellegrini. The Legislature declared it a site of cultural interest; the Carrara marble counter and tables and the original bronze chandeliers survived the closure and the 2001 reopening.
