Teufelsberg

Roughly 25 to 26 million cubic metres of Berlin's rubble went onto this spot between 1946 and the 1960s, dumped over the unfinished Wehrtechnische Fakultät that Albert Speer had designed for the Nazi military. Because it stands higher than anything around it, the Americans and their allies put a signals listening post on the summit during the Cold War, and its radomes are still the shape you see from the Siegessäule. A ski jump 24 metres long opened on the slope in 1955.
