The fifteenth named storm of the 2011 North Atlantic season originated in a tropical wave roughly midway between the Cape Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles on 17 September. Early advisories put maximum sustained winds at 65 mph with weakening expected, and the Bermuda Weather Service forecast its closest approach to Bermuda within 72 hours at 805 nautical miles to the south-southeast.
