Hurricane Matthew (2016)
The storm made its first landfall over Haiti's Tiburon Peninsula early on 4 October 2016 as a strong Category 4, then a second in Cuba later the same day, before crossing the Bahamas and affecting the southeastern United States. It re-emerged into the Atlantic and completed its transition into an extratropical cyclone as it turned away from Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on 9 October. Haiti bore the most significant impacts, with US$2.8 billion in damage and a humanitarian crisis.
