Santa María, 1902
Slight earthquakes were felt on 24 October, and the volcano began discharging steam that afternoon before rumbling noises were heard nearby at 17:00. The main explosive phase lasted no more than 20 hours. A section of the flank was destroyed, exposing steep cliffs that revealed layers of lava and ash deposits extending 1,200 m high. The catalogue records the explosivity index for this eruption as uncertain.
