Calbuco, 2015

The volcano in southern Chile erupted on a Wednesday for the first time in more than 42 years, billowing a large ash cloud over a sparsely populated mountainous area and prompting evacuations. Its previous eruption had been in 1972. Chilean assessments placed the 6,500 foot cone among the three most potentially dangerous of the country's 90 active volcanoes.
