Vienna's Würstelstände

Map of 7 locations in Vienna, Austria

The Würstelstand is a kiosk, a late-night canteen and, since 2024, an entry in Austria's national UNESCO register of intangible cultural heritage, nominated by the stand operators themselves. These are the counters that Viennese voters and the Falstaff poll keep putting at the top: some have been grilling Käsekrainer on the same corner since the 1920s, others arrived with vegan Bosna and a champagne fridge. What they share is an ordering ritual, a standing-height shelf and no table service.
