Caffè Mulassano

The business dates to 1879 but has occupied this small mirrored room off Piazza Castello since 1907, with coffered wood ceilings and Madeira leather on the walls. The mahogany case holds around thirty varieties of tramezzino, including chicken salad with truffle and one with bagna cauda, brought to the table by bowtied staff on single-tier sandwich stands. The house claims the tramezzino was invented here, on a bread toaster imported from overseas to feed the aperitivo hour. Its own vermouths and aperitivi are poured alongside.
