Felsenreitschule

A 17th-century riding school cut into the rock face of the Mönchsberg, in what had been a quarry, with three tiers of arcades hewn from the stone behind a wide open stage. It was opened to the festival in 1926 and still works as an auditorium under the evening sky. It carries opera and concert programmes in summer and again at Whitsun, when it shares the Hofstallgasse address with the Grosses Festspielhaus and the Haus für Mozart.
