Watts Towers

Simon Rodia spent 34 years, from the 1920s into the 1950s, assembling seventeen major structures from scrap steel, mortar, broken tile and bottle glass on a triangular lot in Watts. The site is now administered as Simon Rodia State Historic Park, and the spires appear in the film's date montage. Nothing about them was dressed for the camera: the surfaces are the ones Rodia pressed by hand.
