A weekday lunch of 6.45 euros buys one of two dishes, one of them always vegan or vegetarian: spaetzle, chicken fricassee, quiche, eggs in mustard sauce. The room is a rustic parlour done out in homage to the writer whose name it carries, on a stretch of Potsdamer Straße with little else at that price. Kitchen and bar run on into the evening after the lunch trade clears.
