Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson

Cartier-Bresson set the foundation up in May 2003 with his wife Martine Franck and their daughter Mélanie, to keep both photographers' bodies of work independent and in circulation; the first home was a tall, narrow atelier in a 1913 building, and the foundation now occupies premises in the Marais. Beyond the temporary exhibitions there is a minutely catalogued archive that researchers can consult, and the foundation funds residencies and a photography award. Shows regularly give the walls over to other photographers rather than the founders.
