Cyclone Phailin (2013)
The system was first noted as a tropical depression on 4 October 2013 within the Gulf of Thailand, west of Phnom Penh in Cambodia, before crossing into the Bay of Bengal. It severely affected Chilika Lake, a large brackish coastal lagoon that hosts a number of endangered animal and plant species. Crops were damaged across more than 500,000 hectares of agricultural land in the state.
