Cyclone Nargis (2008)

Nargis made landfall in the Ayeyarwady Division of Myanmar around 1200 UTC on 2 May 2008 at peak strength, driving a storm surge 40 kilometres up the densely populated Irrawaddy delta. At landfall the system carried winds of 130 to 135 mph. It weakened quickly after turning northeast toward the rugged terrain near the Myanmar-Thailand border, and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued its last advisory once it had fallen to minimal tropical storm status. Damage was put at 13 trillion kyat, about 15.3 billion US dollars.
