Cyclone Mala (2006)
An area of disturbed weather formed over the southern Bay of Bengal and the nearby Andaman Sea in mid-April 2006. The India Meteorological Department put peak intensity at 0900 UTC on 28 April, with winds of 185 km/h and a pressure of 954 mbar, while other analysis placed a peak of around 125 knots at about that time, roughly 200 nautical miles west-southwest of Yangon. The strike on Myanmar was destructive, but damage was relatively limited given the intensity, attributed to adequate early warnings and timely evacuations along the coast.
