Pacific Northwest Trail

The line runs from the Pacific Ocean at Cape Alava, the westernmost point in the continental United States, east across three states to the Continental Divide in the mountains of Montana. It was conceived in the 1970s and designated a National Scenic Trail much later. The Wilderness Coast section at the western end has a maritime climate and low elevation; the rest crosses some of the remote mountain ranges of the Northwest, where logistics are part of the challenge.
