Supertone Records
Supertone was a sound system before it was a shop, playing reggae around the country from 1969; the Acre Lane premises followed in the mid-1980s, with sources giving both 1983 and 1984. Reggae is the specialism, extended to rocksteady, ska, dub, soul, soca, calypso, rhythm and blues and Caribbean records, and the shop has served as a hub for the local West Indian community as much as a retailer. It is the oldest record shop in Brixton.
