1978 Los Alfaques disaster
At 3pm on 11 July a road tanker loaded with 43 tonnes of propane left the road bordering the Los Alfaques campsite on the Spanish Mediterranean coast and careered into the camp grounds, where the gas exploded. A news photograph taken the following day at the devastated site shows burned victims lying in coffins, with part of the tanker's tank still on the ground.
