Sompasauna

Three wood-burning saunas with no staff, no showers and no fee: whoever is there chops the wood, fetches the water and looks after the place, a volunteer arrangement running since 2011. The site moved from the Verkkosaari shoreline to eastern Mustikkamaa in 2025, next to the island's sand beach, on a land lease transferred from the Helsinki social democratic youth. Cooling off is a dip off the dock, bathing is often nude, and there are community cupboards if you bring your own lock.
