The Basketmakers Arms
Dating from 1848 on the corner of Gloucester Road and Cheltenham Place, altered over the years but keeping enough interior fabric for a one-star grade. The walls and ceiling are covered in old tobacco and sweet tins, many with notes left inside them by drinkers. A Fuller's house, though the cellar is the place locals go for Harvey's and Sussex beer, and the food is plain pub cooking: battered fish, scampi, pie of the day, ham and eggs. No big screens, no loud music.
