2022 Morbi bridge collapse
Authorities said nearly 500 people, among them women and children, were on and around the suspension footbridge over the Machchhu river in Morbi, Gujarat, celebrating a religious festival, when the cables supporting it snapped soon after dark on the Sunday. Those on the deck fell into the river below. Police put the toll at at least 120. Reports describe the structure variously as nearly 150 years old and as nearly a century old.
