The collections cover zoology, entomology, mineralogy, anthropology, osteology and palaeontology, and the house runs research alongside its permanent and temporary exhibitions. Its dates in the city register are 1661, 1821 and 1849, the first being the founding of Basel's public collection. Admission is charged, cards and cash are both taken, and the building is wheelchair accessible.
