Mercat de Santa Caterina

Barcelona's first covered municipal market, opened in the 1840s on the ground of the Dominican convent whose name it kept. Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue rebuilt it in 2005 behind three preserved façades of the old neoclassical building, adding the ceramic mosaic canopy that reads as fruit and vegetables from above. The excavated foundations below are part of the city history museum, and guided visits trace the site from convent to market.
