La Boqueria

Construction began in 1840 under the architect Mas Vilà, though the market was not formally inaugurated until 1854; the fish hall followed in 1911 and the metal roof that still covers the stalls went up in 1914. It concentrates on fresh produce, seafood and meat, with the juice and sweet stalls clustered on the Rambla side. Preliminary work on a full renovation has already begun under the city's 2026-2036 market plan, which also counts the Rambla flower stalls as a separate non-food market.
