Hurricane Charley (2004)
Charley moved slowly through the Caribbean and crossed Cuba on Friday, August 13, as a Category 3, causing heavy damage and four deaths. At its peak intensity of 150 mph it struck the northern tip of Captiva Island and the southern tip of North Captiva Island, then crossed Bokeelia and made landfall on the Florida peninsula at Punta Gorda, near Port Charlotte. It was the strongest hurricane to hit that area since Hurricane Donna in 1960, and damage estimates range from $15 billion to $16.9 billion.
