Turkish Airlines Flight 981
The McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10 was flying from Istanbul-Atatürk to London-Heathrow with a layover at Paris-Orly. A cargo door of the same type that had blown out in an earlier American Airlines incident failed at 12,000 feet over the town of Ermenonville, and six passengers were pulled out of the aircraft still strapped to their seats. The aircraft struck treetops in the Forest of Ermenonville, a state-owned forest in Oise some 38 kilometres outside Paris, at close to 800 kilometres per hour.
