1871 Ruang eruption and tsunami
The eruption at Ruang volcano in the Molucca Sea began on 3 March 1871 and ended on 14 March. The tsunami it raised struck neighbouring Tagulandang island, where very few homes survived. The naturalist Adolf Bernhard Meyer, who witnessed the eruption, described Ruang as a conical island rising above the sea.
