Ponte do Freixo

Of the bridges linking Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, this one is the farthest upstream. It was built to ease the traffic jams on the Arrábida and Dom Luís I bridges, which had been getting steadily worse since the late 1980s. It is actually two separate bridges built side by side, and it carries the Circular Regional Interna do Porto. Porto's city council marked its twentieth anniversary, and the contractor Teixeira Duarte lists it among its projects.
