Olympiahalle

Opened on 27 August 1972, the day before the Games, and used for the gymnastics and handball competitions. Behnisch & Partner sank the bowl into the ground so the acrylic tent roof could pass over it without a supporting frame of its own, and the arena still runs to about 12,500 seats with the floor laid out, 15,500 without. Three rounds of refurbishment in 2007 to 2009, 2012 and 2020 kept it in use for concerts and conferences rather than converting it.
