Billingsgate Roman House and Baths
Builders digging foundations for the Victorian Coal Exchange found these remains in 1848. They belong to a large private house from around AD 150, with a bathhouse added inside its courtyard in the 3rd century. The underfloor heating and the cold, warm and hot rooms can still be seen from walkways in the basement of an office block. The site stayed in use until about 400 CE, the very end of the Roman period.
