1993 sinking of the ferry Neptune
A dilapidated triple decker of about 150 feet, the ferry ran regularly between Port au Prince and Jeremie carrying passengers, livestock and cargo, and had no visible lifeboats. Described in later accounts as dangerously overloaded, she overturned near the Haitian coast in February 1993. The number of dead is an estimate rather than a count.
