2013 North India floods and landslides
In the early hours of 16 June 2013 a flash flood came down from the overflowing banks of Chorabari lake in Uttarakhand, after Kedarnath recorded 120 mm of rain in the preceding 24 hours. Landslide zones in the valley were rapidly triggered during the flash floods, and the flooding and slides together destroyed lives, livelihoods and infrastructure across large parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and western Nepal. The Kedarnath valley, site of an 8th-century temple dedicated to Shiva, was reported as the hardest hit.
