Unity Temple

Wright's Unitarian Universalist congregation lost its wooden church to a lightning fire, and he answered with poured reinforced concrete, exposed inside and out, finished in 1908. It was his first major public commission and the building is lit almost entirely from above, through clerestories and a coffered laylight rather than street-facing windows. A restoration completed in the 2010s returned the interior finishes, and the building is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of the Wright serial nomination. It remains an active congregation and is open for guided tours.
