Thomas H. Gale House

One of the 1892 "bootleg" houses Wright designed on his own account while still employed by Adler & Sullivan, work he was contractually not supposed to be doing. The result is transitional rather than Prairie, a compact single-storey gabled form that shows the vocabulary before he had settled it. Do not confuse it with the Mrs. Thomas H. Gale House of 1909, commissioned by Gale's widow and separately listed on the National Register. This one stands on Chicago Avenue and is privately occupied.
