St. Pantaleon
Founded as an abbey in 957 in commemoration of the Greek martyr Pantaleon, and holding the grave of the Empress Theophanu, who died in 991 after ruling the Holy Roman Empire as dowager empress for her minor son. During extensive restoration the church lent the Museum Schnütgen its reliquary shrines of Saints Albinus and Maurinus and three fragments of the stone sculpture from its eleventh-century west façade, shown from 31 May 2023 to 31 January 2024; the fragments are among the oldest post-antique monumental sculpture in Cologne. The church is recorded as not wheelchair accessible.
