Hurricane Isabel (2003)
Isabel reached peak winds of 165 mph on 11 September and attained Category 5 strength twice before any landfall. After fluctuating in intensity for four days it weakened and came ashore on the Outer Banks of North Carolina near Drum Inlet on 18 September with winds of about 105 mph, a Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Its path then carried heavy rain and wind into the Washington, D.C. area, and damage along the track totalled about $3.6 billion.
