In 't Aepjen

The building at the top of the Zeedijk is one of the oldest wooden houses in the city, dated to 1475. The name means 'in the monkeys', after a story about a sailor who came back from Asia with a monkey. Sources say genever has been poured here since 1544. That date is disputed, but the building's age is not.
