Typhoon Nepartak (2016)
Tracking northwestward from early July, Nepartak became a typhoon on 5 July and reached its peak with a pinhole eye the following day. It came ashore on the southeast coast of Taiwan in Taitung County at about 05:50 local time on 8 July, by which point interaction with the Central Mountain Range and cooler water had cut the 10-minute sustained wind to 167 km/h and raised the central pressure to 940 mb. One area of eastern Taiwan recorded more than 550 mm of rain. Final landfall came in Fujian province on 9 July as a weakening tropical storm, where flooding caused ¥9.99 billion (US$1.49 billion) in damage.
