The Ljubljana works of Jože Plečnik
Map of 6 locations in Ljubljana, Slovenia
Between the wars Jože Plečnik reworked the public spaces of his home city with modest means, adding to what was already there rather than clearing it: a pedestrian deck beside an 1842 bridge, a park inside Roman walls, steps down to a river. These works were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021, and they follow the two routes the nomination describes. One is the water axis of the Ljubljanica embankments and bridges, the other the land axis running along Vegova Street to Congress Square.
