Neve Yaakov, Jerusalem, Israel

Founded in 1924 by members of the American Mizrachi movement on 65 dunams bought from Arab landowners of nearby Beit Hanina, the original village was abandoned in 1948 and the area retaken in 1967, after which a new neighbourhood was built alongside it. Its population is recorded at 23,300, and it houses the IDF's Central Command for the West Bank, Jerusalem, Sharon, Gush Dan and the Shephelah. The Foundation for Middle East Peace has documented a plan to extend it onto West Bank land, advanced under the neighbouring Adam settlement rather than under Neve Yaakov itself.
