Circle in the Square Theatre

Built into the base of a 1972 office tower and reached by descending from street level, an unusual arrangement among Broadway houses, with 840 seats around a thrust stage rather than facing a proscenium. It is independently run and attached to a nonprofit drama school offering two-year Professional Theatre and Professional Musical Theatre workshops. Mourning Becomes Electra opened the room; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee holds its longest run.
