Zeche Nachtigall

The route's own material calls Nachtigall the cradle of Ruhr mining, and the site shows the earliest workings: the visitor mine is accessible only with a guide, with a small Kleinzeche alongside it. The exhibition Der Weg in die Tiefe, a steam engine in the engine house and a brickworks fill out the grounds, and Ruhr river shipping is covered through a coal staithe and a replica Ruhrnachen. The museum doubles as an information point for the Geopark, and the Muttental valley begins directly behind it.
